71st Joint Review Meeting Focuses on Safety and Operational Excellence

Goa, 12 December 2024 – The Advanced Training Institute (ATI) in Goa successfully hosted the 71st Joint Review Meeting (JRM), emphasizing safety benchmarks and operational performance. The meeting, chaired by Director (Technology & Field Services) Om Prakash Singh, brought together key executives, including Chiefs of Drilling Services, Chief Well Services, Chief HSE, and Heads of Drilling & Well Services, among other dignitaries.

Commendations and Highlights

In his opening address, Director (T&FS) applauded ATI for organizing the event seamlessly, commending the team for their efficiency and resourcefulness. He highlighted ATI’s contributions to workforce development through initiatives such as the Sea Survival Training Center, advanced drilling rigs, and offshore platform advancements, which have elevated the institute to a world-class training hub.

Reflecting on ONGC’s accomplishments for FY 2024-25 (up to October 2024), he congratulated the teams for surpassing targets:

  • ONGC drilled 312 wells, exceeding the BE target of 308 wells.
  • Offshore drilling achieved 106% of the planned wells.
  • The Western Region contributed 85% of total wells, with Ahmedabad drilling 100 wells in 225 days.

Among the key achievements was the announcement of six new discoveries, including the “Chola” discovery in the Cauvery Offshore ultra-deepwater area, which showcased immense potential through impressive test results.

Technological Advancements:

ONGC’s commitment to digitization and operational efficiency was evident through the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as AI, IoT, and data analytics. Tools like the DRILLSIM-6000 Drilling Simulator and Drilling Well Programme were highlighted as significant advancements in enhancing equipment reliability and workflow optimization.

Challenges and Strategic Focus Areas

While celebrating milestones, Director (T&FS) addressed the following challenges:

  • Exploratory drilling achieved only 65% of the target.
  • Rising Non-Productive Time (NPT) and out-of-cycle rig time were identified as concerns requiring strategic interventions.

He also emphasized better inventory management in Well Services, urging timely planning to resolve issues related to slow-moving and non-moving stock.

The meeting concluded with a roadmap to achieve the ambitious target of 549 wells for FY 2024-25. Director (T&FS) rallied the teams with a call for action:

“Let us embody the spirit of progress, determination, and excellence. Together, we will continue to illuminate the path to energy security and innovation for generations to come.”

Innovation at the Grassroots Level

Young professionals like EE(P) Ashish Patel from Cambay Asset presented innovative safety initiatives, including:

  • A QR-based system for reporting unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Free Medicines: An alarm system for multiple safety breaches.

These innovations were well received, reflecting ONGC’s focus on fostering safety awareness and grassroots innovation.

Farewell to Stalwarts:

The JRM fraternity bid an emotional farewell to senior leaders set to superannuate, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to ONGC’s growth and success.

Commitment to Excellence

As the meeting drew to a close, Chiefs and Heads of Drilling and Well Services reaffirmed their commitment to achieving and surpassing set targets for FY 2024-25. Strict compliance with timelines for implementation of key decisions was emphasized as critical for success.
